I Told You Life Was Beautiful

Cynical Optimism: Reality before ideology. A state of existence in which one questions or rejects the qualities and values of the world, all the while retaining a utopian outlook on life. Usually results in genuine joy as opposed to perceived happiness.
syn. Positive Skepticism

...Clothes that you rap about, s’ that I stayed in.
You n’s get love, but that’s the s’ that I was made in.

Well, they told me I was beautiful
I told you I was beautiful
I told you I was beautiful
I told you I was beautiful

Like Stevie on the keys,
Isley on the strings;
Every time I see you it reminds me of them things.
Every time I see you it reminds me of my dreams.
Everything is fine, [I] hope I find you when I leave.
Just because I style, they think I aint broken.
And just because I smile, they be thinking I be joking.
I pass on the blunt and n’s think that I be smoking.
Bust my A’s hat and n’s think that I’m from Oakland,
But I’m just athletic; Just as Reddick.
And when I say you’re fine, I’m talking just aesthetics
‘Cause it’s kind of a façade.
You steady going out. Chest be poking out,
When you know you got a job
And you barely got benefits
Talking what you fitna get
It’s all cool now, but I want you to remember this…
…Sin a bit, pray more. Thank you for this day, Lord.
Only answer to You, so I shouldn’t have to say more.

And I told you life was beautiful
I told you it was beautiful
I told you I was beautiful
I told you I was beautiful
I told you I was beautiful
I told you I was beautiful

Clipse – “I’m Good”

Now I am not an expert on all things. I personally agree with most things I do. As much as anyone should agree with the things that make them, well, them.

I know I look good, ‘cause I feel real good. And when I’m feeling real good, I wish somebody would. I’m just like that.
-Cool Cutta- (One of my favorite tracks, from a classic cd)

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Embody that for a moment. But I digress.

The Clipse are one of the hardest rap duo’s out. Ever. I’ll cash out on that one. They’re religiously slept on; exist in a perpetual sense of label drama and disappear for what seems like years at a time. But they keep growing. Their particular brand of rap is potent enough to give a spiritual man like myself dissonance at times. But what can I say? They make some darn good music and that’s what I’m listening for. Pusha T might be the best rapper out, period. It’s not particularly fair to the elder Thornton because they both have “unorthodox” styles, but Pusha T spits that lava. To spare you a pseudo-blasphemous Jordan comparison, let’s just say Scottie Pippen was one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. And I’ll leave you to make your own allusions.

I say that to say this: Malice is a beast. And showing growth you have to have empathize with to appreciate in its entirety. Noone’s perfect, so I must reiterate that these are slightly misguided, but I like the direction he’s headed. It may help some people to visualize the deep, dark depths of the mindset embedded in “the life” in order to apply it to their own. Call me crazy, but somebody told me that we are blessed through our testimony. Not only does he have the most thought provoking video blog (by a rapper) out, but he’s writing a book that I’ll buy for the title alone. “Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind and Naked.”

I’m a firm believer that sometimes you can show people better than you can tell them, but when it comes to inspiration, saturation is welcomed. He talks a good game. I hope “I’m Good” takes off because, for one, I like it, and for two, if he continues down his current path, he might just enlighten the youth in the same vein reformed convicts redirected the waywards on Scared Straight.

What’s your name? Bridgette. (1:00-1:50)

For those of you unfamiliar, Malice is verse 2 on the song.
“I’m on cloud nine, and I ain’t even high. Told my shorty I’d be back and I ain’t even lie…I see you flirting baby, them jeans is painted on her. Mama looking right, but I don’t even want her. No need to take it personal, but that’s just how it be. No disrespect to you, but I’m enjoying me. Finally, I’m free. All my dues paid…And I’m looking good. And I’m feeling good. Try and stop my shine; I wish a n’ would.”
You have to respect it because it’s descriptive enough to let you know where he’s coming from. You have to feel it because it’s freeing enough to let you know he’s not sweating it. And even more so you have to love it because it sounds good and feels good to witness growth. We all know how I love growth.

Episode 4. I suggest you watch it to the end.

BONUS: In the spirit of my 8th grade year in intermediate school, I looked up the infamous line.

“Hold my pocket” (3:45- 5:00)

On that note, I don’t want anything to do with jail and I remember why.

Feeding My Seeds 3

Brushing without flossing, is like showering without soap.
Your body is a temple. Your temple. Treat it as such.
If you run out of IT, just add water. Water stretches EVERYTHING.
The refrigerator is not a time machine. The freezer is.
Use 2 ply. No more than 3 squares at a time.
Paper towels do not flush.
Look like you're listening.
Read everything that comes through your hands.
If He brought you to it, He'll bring you through it.
Faith is nothing without works.
Get your hands dirty. Then wash them.
Patience builds character. Perseverance builds success.

YouTwitFace

In celebration of the return of great late night programming, I present to you...

More embedded videos.

You may or may not know that I love all things Conan O'Brien. The man can do no wrong. He's comedic genius in the likes of the writer's of the Office, 30 Rock, Chris Rock, Dave Chappele, Dane Cook (yes, Dane Cook) and Stephen Colbert. I could go on, but I won't.

Not only did he bring back Andy Richter, the underappreciacted and long-missed prodigal sidekick, but also Max Weinberg and the Weinberg 7. In addition, they've also added new weirdos and the salvaged the internets second favorite bear.

"Don't spit on that twit
Don't flush Twitter down the..."

And the highlight of the day, the new and improved, "In the year 3000". A certified classic Conan sketch revamped for relevancy. If you don't appreciate Richie the Trombonist's soothing falsetto, you don't appreciate the gift of hearing.

"In the year 3000...

Youtube, Twitter and Facebook will merge to form one super time wasting website called, 'YouTwitFace'."

Welcome back, old boy, and cheers to your your continued success.

In other news, Hit Me on Twitter. If you're into that sort of thing. @smilupe

Heaven

"Heaven" - Unkle
Directed by Spike Jonze

Boom goes the dynamite.

At this point, you should know to watch every video posted. Cinematography, my friends.

Let's Go Back, Back to the Gap

The leg we're grounded in. This song remains Ye's best work to date. Glad to finally see a video. Not to mention, the ending was epic.
